Sargent Wins Again, Kathryn Ford Nabs Two at College Park Futures

2016 FUTURES CHAMPIONSHIPS – COLLEGE PARK

After taking the 800 free on the first night of competition, Victor Swim Club’s Makayla Sargent was back to win the 400 free with a time of 4:18.88, the only swimmer to break 4:20. She came into the meet seeded with a 4:20.34.

Sargent swam that time after racing to a 2nd place finish in the 200 fly (2:16.37). First went to Bryanna Cameron of SOLO, posting a solid 2:14.55 after coming in seeded with a 2:16.05.

Kathryn Ford, unattached, had a strong night three with two individual wins of her own. In the 50 free, Ford touched at 26.24, just ahead of 14-year-old Olivia Livingston. Livingston’s 26.49 ties her for the 67th-fastest time ever in the 13-14 age group. Later on, Ford took the 100 back with a time of 1:03.73 to knock off Club Mountaineer’s Maggie Miller (1:03.95) and NCAP’s Eireni Moshos (1:03.95).

15-year-old Mason Gonzalez of Allegheny North lit things up on the men’s side, torching the 50 free field with a 23.42 over Scott Romeyn‘s 23.57. Romeyn is 16, and both he and Gonzalez landed themselves on the 15-16 all time rankings in the 50 free. Gonzalez is now in a five-way tie for 32nd, while Romeyn’s time puts him at 50th. Keep an eye out for Gonzalez, especially, as he still has another year and some change in before he moves out of the 15-16 age group.

Other winners:

  • 16-year-old Hugh Robey of NCAP took the men’s 200 fly in 2:04.09.
  • Delaware Swim Team’s Jack Portmann posted a 2:20.98 to win the men’s 200 breast.
  • The men’s 400 free went to 15-year-old Ivan Puskovitch in 4:00.12– he came into prelims seeded with a 4:11.56, and is now tenths away from making the all-time top 100 in this event for the 15-16 age group.
