Night four of the 2018 Brazil Trophy, formerly known as the Maria Lenk Trophy, featured finals for the 400 IM, 50 fly, 200 free, and 100 back.

Unisanta’s Gabrielle Roncatto kicked off the night with a win in the 400 IM (4:45.98), dropping over a second her previous PR. She out-touched Corinthians’ Virginia Bardach, who finished second in 4:46.02. In third was Pinheiros’ Florencia Perotti in 4:48.82. Corinthians’ Brandonn Almeida, a freshman at the University of South Carolina, dominated the men’s race for the win in 4:16.01. Leonardo Santos (Pinheiros) took second in 4:22.06, followed by Icaro Pereira (Fluminense) in 4:22.72.

In the women’s 50 fly, Daynara de Paula of SESI-SP took the win in 26.41. In second was Bruna Rocha in 26.69. Giovanna Diamante (Pinheiros) tied for third with Daiene Marçal Dias (Flamengo) in 26.78. With the third-place finish, Diamante secured a podium spot in all three fly events: she was third in the 100 and took gold in the 200. Veteran Nicholas Dos Santos (Unisanta), 38, won the men’s event in 22.97 — the #2 time in the world this year behind Ben Proud. Henrique Martins (Minas) took silver in 23.15, and Guilherme Rosolen (Pinheiros) took bronze in 23.32.

Pinheiros’ Manuella Lyrio picked up a win in the 200 free, going 1:59.23. Rafaela Raurich (Curitiba) took second in 1:59.92, and Maria Heitmann (Minas) followed in 1:59.99. In the men’s race, Minas’ Fernando Scheffer continued his stellar meet by taking down another South American record; he won in 1:46.08. Pinheiros’ Breno Correia took second in 1:47.94, followed by former South American record holder Joao de Lucca in 1:47.98. Also of note: in prelims, 15-year-old Murilo Sartori set a new junior record in 1:49.85.

Kira Toussaint (representing Minas) was the only woman under 1:01 in the 100 back, winning in 1:00.93. Unisanta’s Andrea Berrino took second in 1:01.46, followed by Curitiba’s Fernanda Goeij in 1:02.54. University of Indiana freshman Gabriel Fantoni, representing Minas, won the men’sr ace in 54.07. Fantoni upset veteran Guilherme Guido (Pinheiros), who took second in 54.61. Americana’s Fabio Santi took third in 55.26.

Team Scores

Pinheiros held on to its lead on the fourth day of competition. Note that Minas got an addition 50 points for Fernando Scheffer‘s South American record (85 points instead of the usual 35). After day three, Pinheiros led the point-scoring with 1,625, followed by Minas with 1,372 and Unisanta with 786.
