Schoenmaker Scores Two South African Records In One Night

2020 SOUTH AFRICAN SC CHAMPIONSHIPS

While competing on day 3 of the 2020 South African Short Course Championships, Tatjana Schoenmaker scored two more national records.

After already scorching a new 100m breast PB and South African standard of 1:03.89, the 23-year-old performed a similar feat in the 200m and 50m distances to complete a sweep of the discipline.

Schoenmaker set the stage with a prelims effort of 2:19.69 in the 2breast before ripping a new lifetime best of 2:18.02 in the evening final. Splitting 1:07.40/1:10.62, Schoenmaker’s time tonight surpassed the previous national record of 2:18.20 Schoenmaker put up just last month at Regionals.

Several events later in the same session, Schoenamaker also topped the women’s 50m breast field in a new national record. Touching the wall in 30.20, her time hacks .19 off of her past PB and South African standard of 30.30 set at this meet in 2018.

Although her 50m time needs to get under 30 seconds to check-in among the world’s best-ever, her 2:18.02 200m breast tonight now ranks Schoenmaker as the 17th fastest performer ever in the event worldwide.
