Schroeder YMCA’s Hannah Saiz Races a 400 Meter Butterfly

At the Shorewood Long Course Open in Brown Deer, Wisconsin, Hannah Saiz of the Schroeder YMCA finished 7th in the 400 free – only she swam it butterfly.

Saiz touched the wall at 4:45.08, less than three seconds off of her entered time of 4:42.17, which is her lifetime best in the 400 free.

Saiz, who is primarily a 200 butterflier, was out in a 2:17.09 at the first 200, which is only two seconds off of the Olympic Trials cut in the 200 fly. Her full splits are below.

Splits: 30.99/34.37/35.30/36.43/36.84/36.50/37.89/36.76

With the Olympic Trials just two short weeks away, Saiz has a great shot at making the 200 fly final in Omaha. Her best time is a 2:09.83 from 2015 U.S. Nationals, where she won the B final.

Saiz isn’t the only soul brave enough to swim a 400 fly long course for time– Denmark’s Viktor Bromer did it a few months ago.
