The British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Short Course Championships continues to attract student-athletes from competitive institutions situated all over the region in a heated battle among collegiate squads. Last year’s edition saw Loughborough clinch its 15th consecutive championship trophy, as depth is usually Loughborough’s asset.

However, the University of Stirling denied Loughborough its men’s title, with the likes of Duncan Scott, Craig Benson and Scott McLay coming on strong last year to put up enough points to land #1.

This time around, Stirling is bringing another strong squad, with Scott, Benson, and McLay joining forces once again to do some damage to the BUCS scoreboard. Calum Bain, Cassie Wild, Craig McLean, and Keanna MacInnes are also among the big guns vying for a team title for the #BleedGreen machine.

Loughborough will be a tough opponent as usual, however, with World Junior Championships bronze medalist Archie Goodburn, Emily Barclay, Emily Crane, Greg Butler, Imogen Clark, Joe Litchfield and Marie Wattel representing the school. World Championships bronze medalist in the 200m back, Luke Greenbank, is also set to swim this weekend.

Edinburgh’s squad consists of Jack Thorpe, Kara Hanlon, Katie Robertson, Lucy Hope, Tain Bruce and more, while additional talent is sprinkled throughout other squads, including Laura Stephens at Plymouth and Charlie Brown and Jay Lelliott at Sheffield Hallam.

Action gets underway on Friday and, for the first time, will be live-streamed via BUCS YouTube channel.
