This morning at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Omaha, 17-year-old Sean Grieshop of Nitro Swimming clocked 4:14.00 in the 400 IM to set a new Junior World Record.
Omega Results for Men’s 400 IM Prelim
Grieshop’s swim today took down the 4:14.07 set by Brazil’s Brandonn Almeida at the Brazil Open last December. His performance this morning was a second and a half faster than his previous best, a 4:15.67.
He now also ranks fourth in U.S. history in his 17-18 age group, behind only Michael Phelps, Tom Dolan, and Chase Kalisz. (JWRs only count swimmers up to 17 years old.)
Here are the top 5 all-time rankings for the men’s 17-18 400 IM:
- Michael Phelps: 4:09.09 (2003)
- Tom Dolan: 4:12.30 (4:12.30)
- Chase Kalisz: 4:12.59 (2012)
- Sean Grieshop: 4:14.00 (2016)
- Jay Litherland: 4:14.93 (2014)
Grieshop goes into the final tonight ranked 5th overall. Kalisz is the top seed with 4:11.86, followed by Ryan Lochte in 4:11.98, Litherland in 4:12.57, and Gunnar Bentz in 4:13.67.
Wow,great swim. He looks like such a kid!
Phelps was 4:11.09 at that age. Too bad they didn’t bother to figure out the real junior records
That would be too hard Jimswim.
What about Niccolò Martinenghi setting the Junior World Record in the 50 breast at Settecolli?
What about it?
I don’t see any publicity
Shocking that a junior WR in a non-Olympic event isn’t getting more publicity on an American website during the U.S. Olympic trials.
who cares buddy , here is about Olympic US trials – so what about it ?
Damn you guys must vote for Trump
This article is about the record for 400 IM only. 50 breast is a whole different race for a different article!
