Men
BURNABY, B.C. — Seattle University men’s swimming was victorious on Saturday in Canada as it dropped rival Simon Fraser 135.5-126.5 in head-to-head action.
The Redhawks won five individual events outright in addition to the 400-meter Freestyle Relay.
Juan Varela and Greg Raper each tallied a pair of first-place finishes to headline the Seattle U day. Varela earned top finishes in the 400 and 800 Freestyle events, posting times of 4:10.36 and, 8:41.14, respectively. Raper meanwhile led the way in the 50 and 100 Freestyle, clocking respective times of 24.04 and 52.93.
Jack Neton was also awarded full points in the 200 Breaststroke as his time of 2:22.34 was more than five seconds better than the field. Neton, however, took second in the 100 Breaststroke, 1:06.65, finishing three-hundredths of a second off the first-place pace.
Led by Raper, Isaac Parker and Tyler Goodspeed helped Seattle U sweep the 50 Freestyle. Parker took second in the event with a time of 24.26, while Goodspeed rounded out the order with a time of 24.42. Parker earned another second-place in the 100 Freestyle as he recorded a time of 53.19.
In the 100 Backstroke, second-place points were split for Will Corona as he checked in at 59.30. Corona was also second in the 400 Individual Medley with a time of 4:36.31.
George Thiss took third in the 100 Breaststroke and 100 IM, notching times of 1:09.39 and 4:47.59.
Ryan Ascencio was the top Redhawk finisher in the 200 Butterfly, earning third with a time of 2:12.76.
Connor Barringer took third in the 200 Freestyle touching in at 1:58.54.
Chang He earned third-place points with a time of 2:31.06 in the 200 Breaststroke.
Emmett Moore and Zach Zenteno were also third in their respective events. Moore had a time of 58.46 in the 100 Butterfly, while posted a 2:11.71 in the 200 Backstroke.
Justin Kalugin notched a third-place finish in the 400 and 800 Freestyle, registering respective times of 4:16.28 and 8:42.49.
In the 400 Medley, the team of Weiss, Neton, Corona, Raper took second, 3:54.76, while the group of Moore, He, Saric, Parker checked in at 4:05.60 for a third-place finish. Meanwhile the Redhawks took first and third finishes in the 400 Freestyle with the quartet of Raper, Parker, Goodspeed, Zenteno leading the way with a time of 3:30.71. The cohort of Barringer, Jake Goguen, Milan Saric, and Alex Roderick checked in at 3:35.26.
Seattle U will enter a three-week break before returning to scheduled action at Puget Sound on Nov. 23.
Women
BURNABY, B.C. — The Seattle U women’s swim team was victorious, 139-122, in its head-to-head battle with Simon Fraser on Saturday, winning six individual events in addition to the 400-meter Medley Relay.
Allison Plamondon excelled in the 50 and 100 Freestyle events, taking top honors in both and touched in at 27.74 in the 50 and 1:00.49 in the 100.
Alexa Hoeper won the 200 Backstroke as she notched as time of 2:18.17 with Nikki Cooper following at 2:30.21 for third. Hoeper also added second-place finish in the 800 Freestyle, 9:18.91, while Cooper earned second in the 100 Backstroke as she clocked in at 1:10.64.
Danika Himes and Emma McGill went first and second in the 200 Breaststroke. Himes led the way with a time of 2:38.65, while McGill posted a time of 2:47.71. Himes added a second-place in the 100 Breaststroke as her time of 1:14.29 was three-tenths of a second of the lead pace.
In the 400 Individual Medley, Isabella Guadiamos claimed full points as she touched in at 5:11.56. Caitlin Caruso meanwhile earned a second-place finish as she came in at 5:19.54. Guadiamos also took third in the 200 Butterfly notching a time of 2:28.72.
Bryn Lasher edged out a win the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:05.36, finishing nearly three-tenths of a second faster. Lasher also added a third-place in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 28.48.
Jayna Van Stone finished second in the 200 and 400 Freestyle events as she touched in at 2:11.28 and 4:39.13, respectively.
Maddie Rapp added to the Seattle U cause with a second-place finish in the 200 Butterfly, 2:27.32, along with third-place points in the 100 Butterfly, as she posted a time of 1:06.73.
Michaela Day earned a third-place finish in the 800 Freestyle, posting a time of 9:48.12.
In relay action, the Redhawk quartet of Hoeper, Himes, Lasher and Van Stone won the 400 Medley to begin the day with a combined time of 4:25.15, while the team of Cooper, Guadiamos, Rapp and Plamondon meanwhile followed with a time of 4:32.37, good for third.
In the 400 Freestyle, Van Stone, Plamondon, Audrey Dixon and Julia Gorman took second as they clocked in at 4:02.37.
The Redhawks are now off until Nov. 15-16 when they visit Alaska-Fairbanks.

BURNABY, BC. —After winning the only two individual races and capturing six relay races at the Logger Relays in their first meet of the season, the Simon Fraser Swim team came up just short of Seattle University as a team once again – this time hosting a one-on-one meet in Burnaby.
Seattle bested SFU in both the Men’s and Women’s categories. The Men were beat 136.50 to 126.50, and the Women 139 to 122.
The SFU Men placed first in the 400M Medley relay, Men’s 200M Freestyle (Collyn Gagne), Men’s 100M Breaststroke (Thomas Lychy), Men’s 200M Butterfly (Channah Yip), Men’s 200M Backstroke (Collyn Gagne), Men’s 100M Butterfly (Amar Fejzic) and Men’s 400M IM (Collyn Gagne).
The SFU women placed first in the 800M Freestyle (Kristen Olvet), 200M Freestyle (Katie Rosychuk), 100M Backstroke (Kennedy Loewen), 100M Backstroke (Jordan Doner), 200M Butterfly (Olivia Kidd), 400M Freestyle (Kristen Olvet) and the 400M Freestyle relay.
Two swimmers each had three event wins for SFU in the meet, one on the Women’s side and one on the Men’s. While Collyn Gagne won three individual events, Kristen Olvet won two individual events and was also part of the winning 400M relay team. With Gagne’s and Olvet’s early impressive performances, SFU is excited to see what looks like a promising season for the two swimmers.
