The pre-cut psych sheets for the 2012 SEC Championships have been sent out to coaches. Keep in mind that this year, the SEC is scoring to 24 spots, so depth becomes huge. Coaches were urged to make that change, as the AD’s were unlikely to approve having a C-Final in the meet if all three finals weren’t scored. They join the Pac-12 women as conferences that will score this far down (not coincidentally, the two deepest conferences).

Pre-Cut psych sheets here.

Being a pre-cut sheet, athletes are generally over-entered, and will pare down their selections to their 7-or-fewer events by the time the meet rolls around; however, there are some very key pieces of information to the final outcome of the championship.

  • No Mauricio Robles for Tennessee – The Volunteers will be without the services of Mauricio Robles, their top diver, for this meet. He’s the defending SEC Champion on the platform, but has been battling injuries all season. He was good for 49 points last year at this meet, and that could put a big shakeup into that 5-7 range in this meet.
  • Matias Koski Going Distance – Georgia freshman Matias Koski has developed into one of the team’s best sprinters and best distance swimmers. He leads the conference in the 1650 this season, but there was some chance he might skip it, because Georgia will have so many different scorers in that race. They’re doing it though, and he should be another big scorer. (Note: Georgia seems to have not over-entered, so you can take their entries at face value).
  • Allison Schmitt in 100-500 – Not a big surprise, but Allison Schmitt is swimming the 100, 200, and 500 freestyles at this meet. More notable will be which relays she ends up swimming.
  • Rebecca St. Germain Entered for A&M Women – This is another diver whose had some diving problems. When she’s competed, she’s performed very well, and she’s on at least the pre-cut psych sheets on both springboards. She’s the top seed on the 1-meter, which could be big in the Aggies’ quest for a top-2 finish in their first year in the conference.
  • Martin Grodzki is on the psych sheets – I know they’re just pre-cut, but this would seem to further support our sources who say that he will be eligible for the SEC and NCAA Championships.

As a SEC fan (thanks Tracy Caulkins!) I’m happy with the c finals and thrilled about the espn coverage. Can’t wait for my shoulder repair to get back in the pool: still crossing fingers for a LV top 3 finish!

Is the event limit different now that it is spread out of 5 days? Or how does this work, still 3 individuals?
