Just after receiving a verbal commitment from Brazilian standout Felipe Ribeiro, the Florida State Seminoles reeled in another international up-and-comer: Canadian national age group record-holder Ryan Telford. Ribeiro and Telford are part of vigorous recruiting season underway from new head coach Neal Studd.
Telford is a breaststroke/IM specialist from Whitby, Ontario who swims for the newly-former Ajax Aquatic Club, transferring from his former training grounds at the Markham Aquatic Club. He broke Canada’s National Age Group Record (Male 15-17) in the 200m breast at Canadian Olympic Trials in April with a time of 2:14.87. Telford represented Canada at the 2016 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Maui, where he placed 13th in the 100 breast, 7th in the 200 breast, and 8th in the 400 IM.
His best times (converted to yards with our Speedo Time Converter) are:
- 50m breast – 29.62 (25.78)
- 100m breast – 1:03.51 (55.41)
- 200 breast – 2:14.27 (1:57.36)
- 200 IM – 2:07.38 (1:51.87)
- 400 IM – 4:27.47 (3:55.19)
Telford’s converted times would have put him in the B final of the 200 breast and the C final of the 100 breast at 2016 ACC Championships.
