Senior Worlds Qualifiers Jansen And Wigginton Headline Canada’s World Juniors Roster

26 swimmers will represent Canada at the 2023 World Junior Swimming Championships in Netanya, Israel from September 4 – 9, 2023. The team was selected based on results at the 2023 Canadian Swimming Trials in Toronto. Considering that it has been four years since Canada sent a team to the World Junior Championships, this will be an entirely new team for Canada.

Not all members of the squad, however, are first-time national teamers as some of them swam for Canada at the 2022 Junior Pan Pacs last year. Aiden Norman, Ella Jansen, Elan Daley, and Lorne Wigginton are among those who will be returning this year. Additionally, Jansen and Wigginton were both selected to swim for Canada at the 2023 World Championships, which will occur a few weeks prior to World Juniors.

At the 2019 World Junior Championships, Canadians including Josh Liendo, Finlay Knox, Emma O’Croinin, and Jade Hannah won individual medals. In 2017, Kayla Sanchez, Taylor Ruck, and Rebecca Smith all came away with medals. This meet will be an important step for many of these juniors as they forward toward 2024 when they will return to Canadian Trials to vie for a spot on the Olympic team.

Canada’s National Development Coach Ken McKinnon shared some words on how the team was selected:

“The women’s team spots were hotly contested at Trials, with between eight and 12 girls racing for the two team spots in every event, and Canada will field two swimmers in every single female event. And although the men’s team is leaner in terms of numbers, we expect some very strong swims in Israel.”

McKinnon will share team leader duties with open water lead Mark Perry and the team will be co-managed by Coleen Marchese and Claire Gallagher.

She and her coach Don Barton (Ontario Swim Academy, not eswim) worked very hard for it and absolutely deserved it!

Not sure what beef you have with Eswim, but nowhere in this article Eswim was mentioned.
Regardless, Victoria has always been working very hard for it and I am truly very happy for her.

The last Junior World Championships were held last August in Peru, not four years ago.

Yes! Meant to say since the last time Canada sent a team to the meet.
