Senior recognition day ended in triumph for the Miami University swimming and diving team, as both men’s and women’s squads came out on top against Xavier on Saturday, Feb. 5. Boosted by strong performances from multiple graduating seniors, the women grabbed a 178-92 victory while the men picked up their win 192.5-82.5.
How it Happened:
- The RedHawks dominated the top of the podium, with Miami athletes winning 26 out of 32 events across the meet, equally split across 13 top spots for both squads.
- Miami started the meet strongly with wins in both relay events. The women kicked it off, with the A relay team of Madeline Padavic, Sara Lahrach-Sanchez, Honor Brodie-Foy and Nicole Maier picking up a combined time of 1:44.28 in the 200 medley relay. The men followed, with the B relay team of Owen Blazer, Adrian Dulay, Nic Wamsley and Pedro Gueriros tying for the top spot with a combined time of 1:32.00 in the same event.
- Multiple Miami swimmers won two of their individual events across the meet: Natalie Stump, 1000 freestyle (10:40.25) & 500 freestyle (5:12.06); Blazer, 100 backstroke (49.95) & 200 backstroke (1:51.89); Dulay, 100 breaststroke (57.25) & 100 butterfly (50.33); Maier, 200 butterfly (2:03.05) & 400 individual medley (4:23.64); Tommy Frye, 200 butterfly (1:51.95) & 500 freestyle (4:39.88).
- Other RedHawks who took the top spot in individual events were: Alexandra Spaczay, 200 freestyle (1:54.01); Jack Herczeg, 200 freestyle (1:41.68); Lahrach-Sanchez, 100 breaststroke (1:03.72); Rachel Botting, 50 freestyle (24.26); Cole Grosshans, 50 freestyle (20.35); Ben Chatwin, 100 freestyle (45.69); Angelina Cakuls, 200 backstroke (2:00.89); Anna Martin, 200 breaststroke (2:19.09); McKenzie Reid, 100 butterfly (57.05); Henju Duvenhage, 400 individual medley (4:01.33).
- The final relay event allowed Miami to close out the meet on top. The A relay team of Cakuls, Brodie-Foy, Padavic and Maier finished the 200 freestyle relay in first with a combined time of 1:35.73 for the women, while the B relay team of Wamsley, Chatwin, Grosshans & Jacob Krzciok won for the men with a combined time of 1:22.22.
- The Miami divers, while unopposed, still posted some solid scores. Madeline Lutzko earned a score of 304.73 in the women’s three meter diving event, while David Burke & Karsten Dixon earned 325.13 and 319.28 respectively in the same event for the men.
Up Next:
Both men’s and women’s squad finish up their 2021-22 home season with the last chance meet, followed by participation in the MAC Championships and the NCAA Championships, including the NCAA Zone Diving Championships.

OXFORD, Ohio – Xavier swimming closed out the 2021-22 dual season with a trip to Oxford, Ohio, facing Miami (Ohio) on Saturday afternoon. Xavier collected five first place finishes but was swept by the Redhawks.
WOMEN’S HIGHLIGHTS |
- Brooke Atkins, Lydia Schaeffer, Hannah Pugh and Kali Fischer opened the meet with a time of 1:45.83 in the 200 medley relay to take second.
- Clara Keiser led Xavier in the 1000 free, placing second with a time of 10:45.23.
- Alexis Worrall’s second place finish led Xavier in the 200 free, finishing in a time of 1:55.04.
- Kali Fischer collected a pair of event wins for the women, winning the 100 back with a season-best time of 55.76 and the 100 free with a personal-best time of 51.12.
- Kate Lair led Xavier in the 100 breast with a time of 1:06.88 and in the 200 breast with a season-best time of 2:24.07. Lair also led Xavier with a time of 4:38.79 in the 400 IM.
- Sophia Romero placed second in the 100 fly with a time of 57.24 and placed third in the 200 fly, finishing in 2:07.36.
- Molly Dynda placed in second in the 50 free with a time of 24.46.
- Alexis Worrall’s personal-best time of 2:08.67 in the 200 back led the Musketeers and placed third.
- Erin Ritz led Xavier in the 500 free with a time of 5:15.41.
- Molly Dynda, Alexis Worrall, Clare Bosse and Kali Fischer finished the 200 free relay in 1:35.73 to place second.
- Xavier fell by a final score of 178-92.

MEN’S HIGHLIGHTS |
- Christian Thomas, Ethan Saunders, Gage Hannewyk and Andrew Martin placed second in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:23.75.
- Andrew Martin won the 1000 free with a season-best time of 9:23.81. Martin also led Xavier in the 100 free with a time of 45.97, placing third.
- Jon Bernard won the 200 breast, setting a season-best time of 2:04.47. Bernard also led Xavier in the 200 free with a time of 1:43.22, placing third.
- Ben Quon finished the 100 back in 51.11 to place third.
- Caleb Petranchuk set a season-best time of 58.83 in the 100 breast to lead Xavier and place third.
- Jack Parker led Xavier with a time of 1:52.42 in the 200 fly to place second. Parker also placed second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:05.81.
- Ethan Saunders led Xavier in the 50 free with a time of 21.57.
- Davis Klein led Xavier in the 200 back with a personal-best time of 1:52.97, finishing third.
- Adam Lamping’s time of 4:42.53 in the 500 free led Xavier and was good for second place.
- Christian Thomas set the top time by a Musketeer in the 100 fly with a time of 51.20 to finish in third.
- Thomas, Ethan Saunders, Gage Hannewyk and Andrew Martin closed out the meet with a time of 1:23.75 in the 200 free relay to place second.
- Xavier fell by a final score of 193-83.
