South Orange, N.J. – The Seton Hall women’s swimming & diving team picked up a win over in-state rival Rider, 178-109 on Saturday.

Freshman Sierra Cripps had a successful collegiate debut earning a win in the 200 fly with a time of 2:03.48.

In diving, Taylor Jackson (Thornton, Colo.) won the 3 meter diving event with a score of 254.55.

A total of nine different Pirates won individual events as Seton Hall won its season-opener for the seventh time in the last eight years, including a win over Rider to open last season.

Up next, the Pirates will swim in the Rutgers Quad Meet on Oct. 11 and 12.

The Seton Hall men picked up their first win of the fall season with a 164-129 win over in-state rival Rider. As a collective unit, the Pirates put up impressive times across the board, especially considering Saturday’s meet was the first official competition of the season.

Sophomore Thomas Staes (Berlaar, Belgium) paced the pool in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:02.96 while senior Josh Tosoni (Arnold, Md.) and freshman Gennarino Conzemius took second and third, respectively.

The Pirates were able to successfully avenge last year’s contest against Rider, a hard-fought 163-137 setback.

Overall, Seton Hall was able to take first in nine of the 16 men’s events with seven different Pirates winning their individual event.

Up next, the Pirates will swim in the Rutgers Quad Meet on Oct. 11 and 12.

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – The Rider University men’s swimming and diving team opened the 2019-20 season with a 164-129 dual-meet loss against in-state rival Seton Hall on Saturday afternoon at Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium.

On the day, the Broncs won seven events.

Freshman David Rucci (Sewell, NJ/Gateway Regional) had a strong debut for Rider with a pair of victories. Rucci won the 200 IM with a time of 1:57.55 and he also finished first in the 200 back at 1:52.82.

Senior Justin Carey (Landenberg, PA/Avon Grove) won the 100 fly with a time of49.80 and he also added a second-place finish in the 100 free.

Classmate Rich Fortels (Monroe, NJ/Monroe Township) finished first overall in the 100 back with a mark of 49.82.

In the diving events, Dillon Walles (The Woodlands, TX/The Woodlands High School) was dominant. He won the 1M with a score of 285.82 and he finished first overall in the 3M at 307.28.

NOTES & QUOTES
Lucas Racevicius finished third in the 200 back and third in the 1,00 free.
Kyle Iorizzo landed in second-place in the 1,000 free.
Matt Lequang came in second in the 200 free and third in the 500 free.
Joe Gewartowski was second in the 50 free with a time of 21.69.
– In the diving events, Patrik Rollefson was third in both the 1M and 3M.

The Rider women opened the 2019-20 season with a 178-109 dual-meet loss to host Seton Hall on Saturday afternoon at Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium.

The Bronc women won four events on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Kayla May (Columbia, MD/Oakland Hills) won the 100 back with a time of 58.24 and she also finished second in the 200 back with a mark of 2:06.88.

Sophomore Kylie McMahon (Annapolis, MD/St.Mary’s) won the 200 IM at 2:12.17 and she also added a second-place finish in the 200 fly with a time of 2:09.70.

In the diving events, Meg Tomayko (Murfreesboro, TN/Siegel) won the 1M with a total score of 195.97, while Meagan Fornero (Conroe,TX/Legacy Prepatory Christian Academy) finished second at 185.84. In the 3M, Tomayko landed in second-place with an aggregate score of 237.38.

NOTES & QUOTES
Olivia Iswalt finished second in the 50 free and third in the 100 free.
– McMahon also came in second in the 100 fly at 59.15.
Kyra Schwerzler landed in second-place in the 100 breast and third in the 200 breast.

Rider returns to action next weekend, October 11-12, traveling to Piscataway, New Jersey to take part in the two-day Rutgers Invitational.
