Versus UMBC

The Seton Hall women’s swimming & diving team was edged 156-144 by Maryland Baltimore County in the 2017-18 season opener held inside Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium on Friday evening at Regan Rec Center.

Sophomore Jordan Decker (Mason, Ohio) had a strong opening day of competition by winning the 50 (24.82) and 100 (54.25) freestyle. She also played a part in the winning 200 medley relay (1:47.92). Joining her on the relay was junior Sydney Simpson (Tallahassee, Fla.), freshman Julie Stankiewicz (Metuchen, N.J.) and junior Courtney McCardle (Hurley, N.Y.).

In the 1000 free, sophomores Jilian Calocino (Maywood, N.J.) and Gabby Van Tassell (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished two-three with respective times of 10:42.07 and 10:44.23.

Stankiewicz and sophomore Sara Ouellette(Granby, Conn.) picked up seven points in the 100 back, with another two-three finish. Ouellette later won the 200 back with a time of 2:03.81.

On the diving board, freshman Taylor Jackson(Thornton, Colo.) had an impressive collegiate debut, and won the one meter dive with a score of 261.15, and the three meter dive with a score of 268.42.

Looking ahead, the Pirates have a quick turnaround as they square off with Rider on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Versus Rider

The Seton Hall women’s swimming & diving team was in control from start to finish Saturday afternoon, and finished with a 173-99 victory over visiting Rider in a non-conference dual meet inside Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium.

In the meet’s first race, the 200 medley relay, freshman Julie Stankiewicz (Metuchen, N.J.), sophomore Jordan Decker (Mason, Ohio), senior Sydney Simpson (Tallahassee, Fla.) and junior Courtney McCardle (Hurley, N.Y.) touched the wall ahead of the field in 1:32.66.

Stankiewicz was also the 100 backstroke winner in 2:11.03, and was part of the 400 free relay that swam a 3:41.56.

Sophomore Sara Ouellette (Granby, Conn.) won the 200 free (1:56.75) and 200 back (2:04.79), while freshman Marianne Molloy (Toms River, N.J.) touched the wall first in the 200 fly (2:11.03) and 200 IM (2:11.58).

Freshman Taylor Jackson (Thornton, Colo.) swept the one and three meter dives, and senior Courtney Regan (Southbury, Conn.) won the 1000 free in 11:05.61.

Up next, the Pirates host Monmouth and Montclair State on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 3 p.m. inside the Richie Regan Rec Center.
