Shaine Casas has seen his star rise in the last year and a half since narrowly missing the 2020 US Olympic Team in Omaha. He made the 2021 short course world championships team, won 6 medals in Abu Dhabi, then followed that up with a bronze in the 200 back at the long course world champs in Budapest.
The young pro has racked up 6 wins in this world cup series and looking for more in Indianapolis. Casas gave an open answer when asked how he’s gotten to this point, saying he had his peaks and valleys in college and transitioning to being pro, but now feels he’s matured a lot with his swimming career being full in his hands.
Still waiting for a “way too early 2024 trials predictions” article, but I’ve been thinking about it a lot and the backstroke events are going to be crazy.
Hunter Armstrong, Shaine Casas, Murphy, Urlando (longshot but who knows), Carson foster (showing off his backstroke talents and speed lately), and a couple others that will be in that 100/200 back final.
In addition Casas makes the 200 IM conversation a bit hard as well. Foster, Andrew, Kalisz, and a couple others could also be in contention. Man, maybe I will just do my own “way too early 2024 trials predictions” because this is exciting.
He is doing really well on this world cup circuit. The SCM format is great for him. Just needs to nail down a good event lineup for worlds. I think he is in too many events especially if USA wants him on a bunch of relays.
Sad we didn’t get to see one last season of college swimming out of him. Had a feeling he was going to be even more impressive his final year but regardless dude has clearly matured tremendously and is killing it as a professional. 🐐
