Shannon Stott Leaves ECU, Announces Transfer to Nebraska

In the wake of East Carolina shutting down its swimming & diving program, Shannon Stott is the latest public transfer to another school. With two years of eligibility, she has chosen to join Nebraska in the Big Ten.

Kristen Stege (Tennessee), Adela Vavrinova (Arkansas), and Sara Niepelova (FGCU) have publicly announced their transfers from ECU.

I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Nebraska. Losing my team at ECU has been difficult, however coach Pablo [Morales] and coach Patrick [Rowan] have given me a wonderful opportunity to continue my swimming and academics within their great program. I chose Nebraska because of the opportunities it provides, both athletically and academically.

I am forever grateful for my coaches and teammates at ECU, it’s been a wonderful journey but I’m looking forward to seeing what the future holds for me at Nebraska.

Stott is from the UK, where she has trained at Hatfield Swimming Club. At East Carolina, Stott finished fourth in the 200 fly at the 2019 AAC Championships as a freshman (2:00.58), tenth in the 100 fly (54.99) and 15th in the 500 free (4:57.33). She dropped time in all three events as a sophomore, placing third at the 2020 AAC’s in the 200 fly (1:58.51), seventh in the 100 fly (54.69 in prelims) and tenth in the 500 (4:50.47).

At the 2020 AAC Champs, she also had a huge 1:46.98 relay split on ECU’s second-place 800 free relay. Her 200 free lifetime best in yards (1:54.62) is from an October 2018 dual meet.

Stott will be an immediate boost to the Husker program. She would’ve made their 800 free relay almost three full seconds faster had she been on it at the 2020 B1G Championships, a relay bolstered by 1:44.9 200 freestyler Autumn Haebig. A rising senior who will have one overlap season with Stott, Haebig came to Nebraska with a 1:49.15 lifetime best and has since taken over four seconds off of that.

Additionally, Stott will have one season of overlap with Nebraska’s top 100 butterflier, Isabelle Murray (53.94 last season), and their top 200 butterflier, Madison Coughlen (1:55.78 last season).

Stott would’ve made the B1G B-final in the 200 fly last season with her lifetime best. She will join the Nebraska program next season alongside incoming freshmen Gabby Donahue, Allison HenryCaitlin CairnsElla Stein, and Sarah Barton.
