Sharkfest Swims Come to the Midwest

The presence of sharks is no longer limited to oceanic waters – there are sharks everywhere! And, this summer, you’ll find them in two Midwest locations – Chicago and Indianapolis. Enviro-Sports, the people behind the Sharkfest series of open water swim races, offers two events for enthusiasts in and around these two great cities.

Chicago Sharkfest

2015 Chicago Sharkfest, ad, logo, GraphicIn its second year, Chicago Sharkfest will be held Saturday August 8 at Ohio Street beach. The course is a one-mile triangle right off Lake Shore Drive, with a fantastic view of the Chicago skyline. Anticipated water temperature should be in the low-mid 70’s.

Spectators will be able to walk along the sea wall to observe the swim. Post event festivities will take place in Olive Park, directly behind the beach. Following the event, enjoy a short walk distance to shopping and restaurants at historic Navy Pier and the Magnificent Mile on Michigan Ave.  Register online here!

Indianapolis Sharkfest

The inaugural Indianapolis Sharkfest will be held downtown in the Indy Canal Saturday July 25, offering two distances — 1500 meters and 501 meters … the “Indy 501.” It’ll be like swimming in a picturesque pool surrounded by parks and historic landmarks. Register online here!

Both events are open to swimmers of all ages and do not require USMS membership. More information and links to register for both races — as well as the full Sharkfest Swim Series shown below — can be found at sharkfestswim.com.

For more than 30 years, we’ve introduced runners to the cathedral-like canopies of Big Sur, the fog-cradled hills of Muir Woods, and the striking panoramic views of the Death Valley desert. And athletes have been venturing with us to Alcatraz Island in the San Francisco Bay for the opportunity to ESCAPE FROM THE ROCK™ since 1981!

Sharing wilderness trails with hundreds of other outdoor enthusiasts through our running events comes with the responsibility to respect and preserve the environment. Enviro-Sports supports environmental education, trail maintenance and habitat restoration in the national, state and county parklands where we run.
