Sheff Hallam Dominates Distance Events On Day One Of BUCS

On the first night of the 2014 British Universities and Colleges Sport Long Course Swimming Championships Sheff Hallam University athletes walked away with the titles in the 800 and 1500 freestyle events.

British national team member Eleanor Faulkner took the women’s 800 freestyle in a time of 8:38.89. In December Faulkner took the same title at the short course championships winning the event in a time of 8:24.77.

Faulkner’s long course best of 8:25.36 placed her 13th in the world last year.

Nick Grainger took the men’s 1500 freestyle in a time of 15:20.49. He finished ahead of British national team member Daniel Fogg who posted a time of 15:27.53.

The men’s team from the University of Stirling won the 4 x 100 freestyle relay in a time of 3:26.20 while the University of Edinburgh women’s team took the same event in a time of 3:50.94.

Sheff Hallam holds the lead after the first night of competition with 20 points.
