Siena Water Polo sophomore goalkeeper Anna Mossakowski picked up her first career MAAC weekly honor Thursday afternoon, being honored as the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week following a career best-tying performance.
“Anna is one of the most consistent athletes on our team,” head coach Alex Williams said. “Winning Defensive Player of the Week is a byproduct of her willingness to dominate the fundamentals in practice and step out of her comfort zone as an underclassman.”
Having played every minute of the season thus far in-between-the-pipes for the Saints, Mossakowski recorded a career-best tying 11 saves and added one steal in the Saints’ battle at #24 Iona last Saturday. The Long Grove, Illinois native aided the Green and Gold in cutting the Iona lead to one goal after trailing by as many as three earlier in the match.
Mossakowski became the first Saint to capture a weekly honor this year and the first Siena player to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors in just over two years.
Siena (0-3) continues action in the 2021 season this weekend with road contests at Villanova and La Salle.
