Silvia Scalia Takes 100 Back Title on Final Day of Italian Nationals

Silvia Scalia dominated the women’s 100m backstroke on the final session of Italian Nationals. She touched the pads in a time of 1:00.54, just 0.32 seconds shy of the Italian Record (1:00.22), set by Elena Gemo in June this year. Gemo was 5th in this event, touching in a time of 1:01.89.

Rita Martina Caramignoli had an impressive 1500m freestyle, touching the pads in 16:16.40, way ahead of second place finisher Simona Quadarella (16.25.72). In the men’s event, it was Gabriele Detti who touched the pads first in 14:53.93.

The mens 50m free was a race to the finish resulting in the Italians Luca Dotto and Federico Bocchia out touching Romania’s Norbert Trandafir, finishing in times of 22.26, 22.39 and 22.54 respectively.

The final event of the championships, women’s 100m freestyle was won by Silvia Di Pietro in 54.52, almost half a second ahead of 2nd place finisher, Erika Ferraioli (54.96). Aglaia Pezzato finished just behind them in a time of 56.39.

  • Women’s 200m fly: Stefania Pirozzi (2:09.17)
  • Men’s 200m back: Luca Mencarini (1:58.06)
  • Women’s 200m breast: Francesca Fangio (2:28.85)
  • Men 200m IM: Federico Turrini (2:01.11)
