BURNABY, B.C. – It was a perfect debut for Demone Tissira.
In his first meet as the head coach of Simon Fraser’s women’s and men’s swim teams Saturday, Tissara and his staff of assistant coaches Sue Logan, Nick Flint, and Brian Paschuck, guided both to victories at the Logger Relays in Tacoma, Wash.
“I am very pleased with my swimmers results; they put up a great effort amidst a heavy block of training and showed tremendous team spirit,” said Tissara. “Our hosts (the University of Puget Sound) put together a great competition and it was a pleasure to get back to racing. Our teams both won their respective meets, and our women swept the event program, which is a great achievement. We will continue to build on this performance as we head toward NCAAs.”
The SFU women scored 140 points, defeated NCAA Division 1 Seattle, which posted 92 points. Host Puget Sound, an NCAA Division 3 program, was third with 53.5 points, while Southwestern Oregon, a community college, had 42.5.
SFU’s men’s team bested the competition by scoring 130 points. Southwestern Oregon was second with 87, just ahead of Seattle’s 84. Puget Sound was fourth with 34.
