Simone Manuel è tornata a gareggiare in occasione della tappa delle Pro Swim Series a Knoxville, qualificandosi per la finale dei 50 stile libero femminili in quella che è stata la sua prima nuotata in vasca lunga dai Giochi Olimpici di Tokyo.
Manuel ha ottenuto un tempo di 25,48 per avanzare al quarto posto nella finale dei 50 stile libero femminili, preceduta da Abbey Weitzeil (24,70), Erika Brown (25,05) e Olivia Smoliga (25,46), tutte vincitrici di una medaglia di bronzo insieme a Manuel nella staffetta femminile 4×100 stile libero ai Giochi di Tokyo nell’estate del 2021.
Manuel, che alle Olimpiadi ha partecipato anche alla gara individuale dei 50 stile e si è classificata all’11° posto, dopo i Giochi è passata in sordina e non ha più gareggiato per più di un anno.
Lo scorso agosto ha fatto notizia l’annuncio del suo passaggio al fiorente gruppo di professionisti dell’Arizona State University sotto la guida dell’allenatore Bob Bowman.
