As reported, Olympic and World champion Simone Manuel has been sitting out of competition this fall with an injury. SwimSwam caught up with the Stanford sprinting ace at the Art Adamson Invite, which she traveled to with the Cardinal women and has been practicing at since arriving.
Simone has been practicing with the team as normal, but has been limited to pulling due to a nagging hip injury that started early in the semester (quarter, if you’re at Stanford). She says she has been cleared to start kicking a bit in practice as soon as Monday, and hopes to return to competition by January.
Simone is the defending NCAA champion in both the 50 and 100 freestyle (and holds the American record in the latter) and was a key part of Stanford’s relay performances that led them to an NCAA team title in 2017.
Sounds like the injury was more serious than Stanford (understandably) let on. I wish her the best and hope she is back competing soon!!
It’s also possible that it was a small injury that just kept getting re-tweaked. The hip is particularly susceptible to this since it’s used in almost every daily activity.
Get well soon Simone! We miss you! Hope you are back even stronger and faster!
I’m glad she’s improving as her health and safety is the most important thing.
Looking forward to seeing a healed Simone back in the pool.
WHY would anybody down vote this or any other comment wishing someone good health and healing?? What is there to gain from seeing someone injured or hurt?
Agreed. Like I’ve wrote in earlier posts in other venues: There are some sad souls that need to drink from the well of human kindness. Everybody (& I’m an A&M Fan as can be seen from my moniker) should want this young lady to heal up & get back to competition. Wishing her the best in her recovery. Hope to see her back at it soon!!!
We’re looking forward to seeing u in the next Olympics u go girl
I was going to say, I saw her doing a nasty pull set the other week (racing Lia Neal in 100s Long Course), and I wanted to jump on here and say “she didn’t look injured to me,” but I didn’t feel like it was my place to discuss it if they were intentionally keeping things under wraps. Hopefully she’ll be able to bounce back quickly.
