Simone Manuel and Katie Ledecky Promote LA2024

Los Angeles is promoting a bid to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This is an ongoing attempt to bring the games to LA.  It is one of two candidate cities along with Paris.  Los Angeles was chosen by the United States Olympic Committee on August 28, 2015, after the Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously to support the bid.

Five-time Olympic Gold medalist, Katie Ledecky, and two-time Olympic Gold medalist Simone Manuel recently starred in a promotional video for Las Angeles 2024.  Both are members of the women’s Stanford University swim team in California, though neither is a native Californian (Manuel is from Texas and Ledecky from the Washington D.C. area).

“It would mean a lot for the Olympics to come to California.  I love California The people are just so awesome and sincere and willing to help” said Manuel.

“Competing on your home turf is unreal” said Ledecky.

This would be the first time in 40 years in which LA would host the Olympic Games.

At the risk of incurring the wrath of the inter web… I know it’s only ‘temporary’ but will the IOC award the Olympics to a country that has barred some nationalities from entering the country? It feels like a political headache that the IOC would want to steer clear of, which would be a big shame for LA2024

IOC wants to make happy both candidates and wants to announce this year who will host 2024 and 2028 olympic games.
Paris has said clearly it was 2024 or nothing while LA has been less clear. They said 2 weeks ago like Paris that they ruled out 2028 as escape plan but weirdly they also said last week that they will not give IOC ultimatum on 2024 or 2028 so it looks like they let the door open, unlike Paris. France will not make another bid before a very very very long time if they don’t win. USA looks much less intransigent.
IOC has heard that and unless there’s a major surprise, Paris will host 2024 olympic games… Read more »
