In an update to a previous story, Singaporean butterfly champion Tao Li has decided on her 3rd coach in as many years in an attempt to get back to an Olympic final.
The 21-year old broke an Asian Record (57.54) en route to a 5th-place finish in the 100 fly in Beijing, and in 2010 took gold in the 50 fly and silver in the 100 fly at the Asian Games. Since her Olympic appearance, she has split both with her long-time coach Peter Churchill, who took her to her first glory, and then after only a year with Barry Prime, she decided a few weeks ago that she was ready to again find a new coach at her training spot at the Singapore Swim School.
She has settled on Ian Turner, who most recently has worked at the Singapore Swimming Club. Turner made his name by serving as the head coach of the British National Team until 2008 before leaving to become the Director of Operations at the famed North Shore Swimming Club in New Zealand.
Reports to The Swimmers’ Circle are that Li called up her former coach Churchill several times, including as recently as last Monday, to try and earn his services back, but the two couldn’t work out a deal.
