Siobhan Haughey swam a 24.56 in finals of the women’s LCM 50 freestyle at Mare Nostrum Canet to set a new Hong Kong National Record. She broke her own national record which previously stood at a 24.59 which she swam in May 2019.
Haughey has broken seven individual Hong Kong national records so far in her career. In addition to the LCM 50 free, Haughey is the LCM national record holder in the 100 free, 200 free, 400 free, 100 fly, 200 IM, and 50 breast (awaiting ratification).
Haughey is most known for her 100 and 200 freestyles as she won silver in both events at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Haughey swam a 52.27 in the 100 and a 1:53.92 in the 200.
Although she swam the 50 free at the Olympics, she scratched the event after finishing 15th in prelims as she touched in a 24.75. Her national record from today would have been 11th in prelims at the 2020 Olympics.
Haughey’s time today ties her with Wu Qingfeng for the 10th fastest time in the world in the LCM 50 free so far this year. Sarah Sjostrom who won today’s event holds the top time of 23.92.
