SIU Salukis Land Commitment from Patriot Aquatic Club’s James Dooley

Coach Rick Walker got a commitment from James Dooley to represent Southern Illinois University this fall.  He plans to pursue a major in photojournalism while training with the MAC program.  Dooley might be a diamond in the rough for the Salukis as he got a little bit of a late start and has been rapidly improving in the sport.

James currently swims for Patriot Aquatic Club in Lincolnshire, Illinois all year, as Carmel Catholic High School doesn’t offer swimming. He competed at NCSA Junior Nationals in Minneapolis this summer and has finished as high as 14th at the Illinois Senior State Meet in the 200 breast.  James has only been swimming since his freshman year, which makes his times and versatility seem like a great sign of future potential.

“I chose SIU because the coaching staff recognized my margin of improvement and they believe I can excel as an athlete.  I fell in love with what the school offered to me academically and I can’t wait to be a part of the Saluki family.”

James’ top times (SCY/LCM):

200 Breast: 2:12.09 / 2:34.86

100 Breast: 1:00.74 / 1:12.72

100 Fly: 53.40 / 1:01.74

200 Fly: 1:58.57 / x

200 Free: 1:45.15 / 2:04.83
