Sjostrom Enters Fly Events at Sette Colli for First Time Since Broken Elbow

58TH Sette Colli Trophy 2021

The 2021 Sette Colli Trophy kicks off on Friday, and serves as a FINA approved event, where Olympic qualifications may take place. That being said, a number of high-profile swimmers are entered in the meet, as we approach one month until the Tokyo Olympics.

Here is a list of some of the top names on the psych sheet:

WOMEN

MEN

Sarah Sjostrom, who is still recovering from her elbow surgery, is entered in the women’s 50 free, 100 free, 50 fly, and 100 fly. This is particularly interesting, because Sjostrom previous stated that she wouldn’t be ready to race butterfly in the Olympics this summer, due to her recovering elbow. However, she’s been able to put up some promising freestyle times since her return to racing, so if she ends up racing the fly events this week, it could be an indicator of her Tokyo schedule. Sjostrom is the World Record holder in the LCM 100 fly.

The women’s free events are totally packed. At least as things stand now, Sjostrom will be going up against the likes of Ranomi Kromowidjojo, Pernille Blume, Femke Heemskerk, and Michelle Coleman in the 50 free and 100 free. Federica Pellegrini is in the mix in the 100 free as well, and will be competing in her home country.

Kristof Milak is entered in the 100 free, 200 free, 100 fly, and 200 fly. He’ll be going up against Alessandro Miressi in the 100 free. Miressi has been on a tear in the 100 free so far this year, and enters the meet 3rd in the world this year.

Watch out for Lisa Nystrand. She is entered in 200 breaststroke and both IM’s (maybe in other events and I just missed her name in the entry lists) with pretty fast times. She is 2006 born and her entry times in the IM’s are 2:15/4:49.

I’ve always wondered if she’s related to Stefan Nystrand?

Lots of Italians in that men’s 100 free. It will take some work for Santo Condorelli to make it to Tokyo.
