Slovakian Water Polo Player Suspended For Two Years After Methamphetamine Test

Slovakian water polo player Matej Somsag has been suspended two years after a positive test for methamphetamines, FINA announced today.

Somsag is a 6-foot tall, 18-year old goalie with the club TOZAN Sport Club Topoľčany, and tested positive on November 29th, 2014 at a tournament in Bratislava.

Methamphetamines are a Class S.6.a “non-specified stimulant” under the World Anti-Doping Code. Non-specified substances are those that the World Anti-Doping Association believes are less likely to be taken by accident, and therefore are not eligible for the same reduction of suspensions as are specified substances by arguments such as confusing medicine labels or tainted supplements.
