SMU Women Play Host to TCU, Iowa State on Friday

DALLAS – The SMU women’s swimming and diving team welcomes TCU and Iowa State to the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium Friday at 6 p.m. for a Homecoming double-dual meet. SMU opened the season by hosting the SMU Classic, an event that featured three teams that occupied a top-15 spot in the CSCAA TYR Top 25 Poll. Andrea Podmanikova and Erin Trahan led the Mustangs, both posting NCAA B standard times. Podmanikova was named the American Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week after the event, clocking the second fastest times in the NCAA this season in the 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes, while Trahan posted the seventh fastest time in the 100-yard butterfly and 16th fastest in the 200.

In week two of the Mustangs’ season, the Ponies went 1-1 in dual action, defeating North Texas and falling to Houston. SMU won 10 of the 16 events in the meet, with Trahan and Podmanikova winning three individual races and helping SMU to a win in the 200-yard medley relay.

Podmanikova continues to occupy spots in the NCAA’s top three, coming in with the second fastest time in the 200 breast (2:09.57) and third fastest in the 100 (59.68). Trahan is ninth in the 100 fly (53.33) and 24th in the 200 (1:59.29).

In relay action, SMU sits eighth in the 400-yard medley relay with Felicity Passon, Podmanikova, Trahan and Gabi Grobler coming in at 3:37.81, and 13th in the 800-yard freestyle relay as Olivia GrossklausAnnabelle CorcoranKeiko Derikoletis and El Yellin teamed up for a 7:34.24.

TCU placed fifth at CSCAA Open Water Nationals to open the season and followed the performance up with a 203-102 win over Texas-Permian Basin. The Horned Frogs also fell to Kansas, and placed third at the TYR Fall Classic at FIU.

Iowa State is 2-1 in dual action this season with wins over South Dakota and South Dakota State. The lone loss of the season came at the hands of Nebraska.

The SMU men’s team will also host TCU on Friday, and Homecoming continues with the annual Alumni Meet Saturday starting at 10 a.m.
