DALLAS – The SMU women’s swimming and diving team is back in action Saturday when it hosts Rice and Arkansas at 11 a.m. at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium. Live video and results will be available.
The Mustangs are 4-2 in dual action this season and are coming off a 1-1 weekend with a win over Loyola New Orleans. SMU fell to No. 8 Texas A&M in College Station to close the weekend. Mustang divers competed separately at the Georgia Diving Invitational with freshman Johanna Holloway leading the way with a season-best 1 meter performance.
SMU also has dual-meet victories over North Texas, TCU and Iowa State this season.
Three Mustangs hold NCAA B qualifying standards, including Andrea Podmanikova (100 breast, 200 breast, 200 IM), Erin Trahan (100 fly, 200 fly) and Olivia Grossklaus (200 fly). All three also hold times on at least one of SMU’s all-time top-10 performers lists. Podmanikova (Oct. 16, Nov. 20), Holloway (Nov. 6.) and Gabi Grobler (Nov. 6) have picked up American Athletic Conference weekly honors.
Conference USA opponent Rice is 4-1 this season with wins over Tulane, Denver, FIU and TCU. The lone loss also came at the hands of Texas A&M in College Station. Most recently, the Owls won the 10-team FAU Invitational.
Arkansas is receiving votes in the latest CSCAA TYR Top 25 Poll and is 2-3 in dual meets. The Razorbacks defeated SEC opponents Vanderbilt and then-No. 15 Missouri, while falling to then-No. 7 Georgia, then-No. 14 Kentucky and South Carolina.
SMU fell to both Rice and Arkansas during the 2017-18 season.
