PROVIDENCE, R.I. – For the second time this season, sophomore Andrea Podmanikova was named the American Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday.
Podmanikova posted three runner-up performances to lead the Mustangs at the mid-season Hawkeye Invitational, including a career-best and NCAA B cut 1:58.57 200-yard individual medley. In breaststroke events, she posted times of 1:00.01 and 2:11.68 in the 100 and 200 distances, respectively, keeping her under the NCAA B standard in both events.
The 200 IM performance moved Podmanikova up to fourth on SMU’s all-time top performer list. She also ranks second on the 200 breaststroke (2:09.29) list and third on the 100 (59.68).
The Topolcany, Slovakia, native also helped SMU to three top-five relay finishes. The Mustangs were second in the 200-yard medley relay with Podmanikova swimming a 27.51 breaststroke leg, and were fifth in both the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays. She also joined the 800 free relay that placed sixth. All relay finishes were season-best times for SMU.
The Mustangs placed fourth at the event with a total score of 414.5.
