Now that the 2019 European Short Course Championships have concluded, let’s take a look back at some of the facts and figures spun out of the elite biannual event. Besides the overall medal table and individual hardware count, several other feats and accomplishments were achieved, as presented by LEN below.
- The Russian team’s 13 gold medals represent the second-best haul in history.
- Kliment Kolesnikov of Russia captured the biggest payday for the men, reaping €20,000 ahead of runner-up Danas Rapsys of Lithuania and Ilya Shymanovich of Belarus
- Dutch national record holder and double gold medalist here, Kira Toussaint, secured the top cash prize for the women, taking home €20,000 as well.
- Just 1 World Record bit the dust, courtesy of the Russian mixed 4x50m medley relay who clocked a new mark of 1:36.22.
- European Records dismantled in Glasgow included Vlad Morozov‘s (RUS) 25.51 50m breast, Shymanovich’s 55.89 100m breast, Andreas Vazaios’ (GRE) 1:50.85 200m IM and Russia’s mixed medley and mixed 4x50m free relays (1:28.31).
- The list of highest-yielding multi-medalists across all single editions of these Championships saw Morozov and Kolesnikov break onto the scene in spots #1 and #4, respectively, after Glasgow.
- Italy took home the overall FINA points trophy, as the nation did at the 2015 edition.
