UCLA Bruins head coach Cyndi Gallagher has got her mojo working this fall on the recruiting trails, as she’s picked up yet another very good butterfly commitment.
Anna Quinn from the Conejo Simi Swim Club and Thousand Oaks High School, which is about 30 miles west of the UCLA campus, has verbally committed to UCLA. Her club coach is Lauren Hancock, and her high school coach is Thomas Smith.
Quinn has yards bests of 54.9 and 1:59.66 in the 100 and 200 yard butterflies. UCLA has landed a well-rounded class this year, but there’s been a big focus of butterfliers – which makes sense, given that the last few years, that group has been rock-solid for the Bruins.
This class is looking more-and-more like top 5 material (though there’s not enough superstars left for them to really catch Michigan, Stanford, Georgia, and Cal) based on its depth. Along with Quinn, MP Delisle and Kaitlin Grover have also been 55.0 or better in the 100 yard fly.
Quinn’s best events are the butterflies, but she’s a very good freestyler as well (51.80/1:51.11/4:53.50 in the 100/200/500 yard freestyles), and IM’er (2:06.4 in the 200 yard race).
She’s also a star in long course, as a two-time Junior Nationals finalist in the 200 fly. Her long course meters bests are 1:02.6/2:15.4 in the 100 and 200 fly; and 2:06.0/4:23.2 in the 200 and 400 free.
Oh… SOCAL butterflier… that makes sense.
At first glance I thought is said SOCIAL butterflier, which was sort of amusing. Never know – both may be true.
congrats to UCLA and Anna I am looking forward to the PAC 12 meet this year!
