South Carolina Secures Another In State Talent For 2020 With Aubrey Chandler

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Aubrey Chandler of Fort Mill High School and the Upper Palmetto YMCA in Fort Mill, South Carolina has decided on the University of South Carolina as her college of choice for 2020. A pure sprinter, Chandler has flat start career-best times in the 50 and 100-yard freestyles that would have been .32 and .9 seconds respectively off of what the slowest member of the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle relays swam for the Gamecocks at the 2019 SEC Championships.

“Thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at the University of South Carolina! The moment I stepped foot on campus I knew I was meant to be a Carolina Gamecock! I can’t thank my family, coaches, and teammates enough for the constant love and support! #gococks #spursup”

Chandler was the 2019 South Carolina Swimming Short Course State Champion in the 50-yard freestyle (23.74) and 100-yard freestyle (51.14). At the 2019 YMCA Short Course National Championships she went 4 for 4 in career PRs along with finishing 7th place in the 50-yard freestyle (23.34) and 9th place in the 100-yard freestyle (50.14).

Best Times in Yards:

  • 50 free – 23.07
  • 100 free – 50.14
  • 200 free – 1:49.90
  • 100 fly – 57.45

Chandler’s career-best times in the 50 and 100-yard freestyles would have been 2nd fastest on the 2018-2019 team behind current junior Christina Lappin. She is going a class of 2024 that is already quite large consisting of Olivia McPherson, Meredith Berglund, Kaitlyn Porter, Emma Sullivan, Gabi Reed, Georgia Johnson, Megan Armstrong, and Riley Parker, of which she and McPherson are the only pure sprint freestylers.
