South Carolina Swim And Dive Winter Training Video

Video courtesy Jack Smith

The University of South Carolina swimming and diving team posted this video from their winter training, proving that swimmers can still train hard and have fun without a tropical training trip.

During their winter training, the team competed in a dual against Duke University. Duke took the wins in both the men’s (154-146) and women’s (187-113) competition.

Big wins for the Gamecocks in the Duke dual came from Julia Vincent (1 meter: 323.7, 3 meter 319.8), Jordan Gotro (1 meter: 331.73, 3 meter 380.33), Emma Barksdale (1000 free: 9:51.14), Cody Bekemeyer (1000 free: 9:10.81), Kevin Leithold (200 free: 1:40.24), Nils Wich-Glasen (100 breast: 54.74, 200 breast: 1:58.88, 200 IM 1:49.93), Kersten Dirrane (200 breast: 2:17.25, 200 IM: 2:05.84), and Akaram Mahmoud (500 free: 4:30.09).

In the second half of their season, South Carolina will face off against the likes of Vanderbilt, Queens, UNC Wilmington, Wingate, East Carolina, and William and Mary. They will end off the season with SEC Championships in Columbia, Missouri February 16-20. Those who qualify will move on to NCAA Division I Championships in Atlanta, Georgia, March 17-19 for the women and March 24-26 for the men. Last season, the Gamecock men finished seventh and the women finished eleventh in the SEC.

Thanks to our stellar coaching staff, we’re already sending Gamecocks to the Olympics this year.

As for SECs, I suppose we’ll see very shortly.

Too bad the coaching staff wasn’t updated as well!

Defend all you want flyer but the staff isn’t making any progress on the SEC, that’s all that matters in a sport that doesn’t matter to the athletic department.

Wish USC could at least get back to the Olympic representation of the 80’s and 90’s
