CARBONDALE, Ill. — In the last home meet of the regular season, the Saluki women out-battled MVC opponent Valparaiso, 211-50, and Eastern Illinois 209-53 in team tallied points. The women took the top spot in every event, including the 1, 2, 3 spots in both relays Saturday afternoon inside Shea Natatorium.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS
Numerous freshman picked up their first individual first-place wins today including, Nicole Horton (500-free), Gaby Jenkins (200-back), Maia Torres (200-fly), and Melanie Scheiblein (100- and 200-breast).
Relay squads A, B, and C picked up the top three spots in the 200-medley event, outperforming the fourth place Valparaiso squad by over 10 seconds.
In her first time competing in the event all season, freshman Gaby Jenkins pulls off a first-place finish for the Salukis in the 200-backstroke race, clocking in at 2:04.89 — the fifth best time for the women in the event all season.
Valerie Bates and Eden Girloanta took the 2 and 3 spot behind teammate Fernanda Sanchez in the 400-individual medley race, Bates with her career-best finish (4:40.07) and Girloanta in her first action in the event all season (4:41.58).
Senior Justina Lanni saw her first top-three finale of the season, taking bronze with a 1:06.95 performance in the 100-breaststroke event.
NEXT UP
With the next week to train and prepare, the Saluki men head to Oxford, Ohio to compete in the MAC Championships April 8-10, hosted by Miami of Ohio.
