EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The women’s and men’s swimming teams were looking to make a splash this weekend as they made the trek to Indiana to take on the Screaming Eagles of the University of Southern Indiana on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 22).

With both squads still in the hunt for their first team victory, it was the men’s team who tallied it’s first win of the season taking down USI 135-125. After back-to-back solid performances the Hawks were able to breakthrough into the win column.

In a case of quality over quantity for the Hawks on Saturday they found themselves outmanned but still came away with a win thanks to 11 event victories on the day.

The women’s team suffered from the usual suspect, a lack of representation in events compared to the Screaming Eagles. Quincy picked up four event wins in the meet but found themselves surrounded and overwhelmed by the number of USI swimmers in each event falling to the hosts 201-56.

QU showed well in the sprint events as they have all season thanks to two winning efforts by Izabella Sparrow in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle. Chantal Tiesinga got her name on the stat sheet with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle beating out the second-place finisher by just five tenths of a second. Faith Cummings also scored a win on the day for the Hawks taking the 200-yard breaststroke.

The Hawks are off next week but get back into action on Saturday (Nov. 5) playing host to the Bulldogs of Truman State University at the HFC Pool for a 5:00 p.m. GLVC showdown.
