Tennessee Aquatics will be hosting the Southern Premier Meet running March 4-6. Along with Tennessee Aquatics, many large clubs will take part including the Lakeside Swim Team, Nashville Aquatics, the Bolles School Sharks, and SwimMac Carolina. Many of SwimMac elite will also be taking part, as will many members of the University of Tennessee women’s team as they prep for NCAAs.
On the women’s side, SwimMac is sending breaststroke star Katie Meili and sprinter Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace. Olympian Amanda Weir will represent Swim Atlanta and former world record holder Kate Ziegler will represent Tennessee Aquatics. Also representing Tennessee Aquatics will be breaststroker Molly Hannis, and many of the University of Tennessee’s girls will swim unattached, including Madeline Banic, Madeline Tegner, Faith Johnson, Kira Toussaint, and Harper Bruens. Also competing will be rising stars Alex Walsh of Nashville Aquatics and Brooke Forde of Lakeside.
On the men’s side SwimMac is sending plenty of their top guns, including Olympians Ryan Lochte, Cullen Jones and Jimmy Feigen. Also repping SwimMac this weekend will be Tim Phillips and Matthew Josa. With Lochte looking like the only lock for the Olympic team, it will be interesting to see where these guys are at in their training. Another intriguing thing is these guys will be battling each other for spots in Omaha, with Jones and Feigen in the sprint freestyle events and Phillips, Josa, and potentially Lochte in the 100 fly. We will see Feigen and Jones square off in both the 50 and 100 freestyle, while all five men will swim the 100 fly. Lochte is entered in a few more interesting events, including the 200 fly and the 400 IM.
Other notable names competing will be breaststroker Brad Craig (Tennessee Aquatics), and many members of the University of Tennessee men’s team, including Peter John Stevens, Evan Pinion, Sean Lehane and Sam McHugh.
Does anyone know if Lochte has recorded atime for the 200 fly before?
His best times are both from 2006 for SCY and LCM. 1:42.39 in yards at the 2006 SECs and 2:03.14 long course at the Santa Clara Grand Prix (This meet is yards).
