The Royal Spanish Swimming Federation has announced that Jose Antonio del Castillo has won the Alejandro Lopez Trophy, which goes to the country’s coach of the year. This comes as no surprise as del Castillo is the acting Head Coach of the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation and lead the Spanish national team that earned three silver and one bronze medal at the 2013 World Championships in their home country. This was a significant improvement on the two silver that the Spaniards earned at the 2012 Olympics in London.
de Castillo has also been in charge of the training of Melanie Costa, who finished second in the 400 freestyle in Barcelona.
On other coaching award was given out as Eugeni Lopez won the Jose Antonio Luis Hoyos Trophy as the top age group coach.
