Speedo, the world’s leading swimwear brand, has signed American butterfly and medley specialist Andrew Seliskar to its roster of swimmers ahead of the Olympic Games in Tokyo this summer.

Seliskar, who is a three-time NCAA Champion, has signed his first performance swimwear sponsorship deal having graduated from the University of California, Berkley, where he represented California Golden Bears alongside Team Speedo stars Kathleen Baker, Ryan Murphy and recent addition Abbey Weitzeil.

The 24-year-old holds the all-time record for most Pac-12 Conference title wins where he is an 11-time individual champion.

2019 was a huge year for Seliskar who was named PAC-12 Swimmer of the Year and NCAA Male Swimmer of the Year after winning the 200y individual medley, 200y freestyle and 200y breaststroke crowns at the NCAA Championships.

Later that year, Seliskar bagged his first World Championships medal when helping Team USA to bronze in the 4x200m freestyle relay at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships in Gwangju.

He was also announced as a member of the LA Current team in the International Swimming League where he has competed for the past two seasons.

Following the announcement, Seliskar said: “My ultimate aim in swimming is to reach my fullest potential both athletically and mentally and joining Team Speedo is the perfect step in helping me to achieve this.

“Swimming has always been a passion project of mine. I want to see how far I can push myself in the pursuit of greatness and I will never sacrifice my love of the sport. Speedo has always been at the forefront of innovation in swimming and I can’t wait to see how we can work together to help me get where I want to be.

“The narrative around swimming is often focused on the individuals, but I have been part of great teams and atmospheres at UC Berkeley and Team USA. This is what drives and motivates to succeed and I’m excited to join another great group and get out there racing with the rest of Team Speedo!”

Sean Kavanagh, Global Director of Sports Marketing & Sponsorship at Speedo, said: “Andrew is one of the brightest prospects in USA Swimming right now and we are really pleased he has chosen to join Team Speedo.

“We have seen Andrew wipe the board throughout his college years whilst wearing Speedo suits and it is great to have him as part of the family. He has already managed to rack up an impressive roll of honour and we believe he is only just getting started and will be a big force in the swimming world.”

Before moving to California, Virginia-born Seliskar was breaking state records at the Thomas Jefferson High School as part of the Nation Capital Swim Club under the guidance of head coach John Flanagan.

Outside of the pool he is a big punk rock fan and enjoys playing guitar, reading non-fiction books and spending time in the outdoors.
