Sprint Freestyle and Backstroker Grace Hagemaster Commits to Rutgers for 2022

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Grace Hagemaster from Frankfort, Illinois has announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic careers at Rutgers University beginning in the 2022-2023 school year.

“I’m excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swim career at Rutgers University.  I’m really excited to work under such a great coaching staff there! I’d like to thank my parents, Academy Bullet and Lincoln-Way East coaches, friends and teammates who helped make this possible! RURAHRAH RUTGERS PRIDE

Hagemaster swims for Academy Bullets Swim Club out of Aurora, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. In November 2020 at the Illinois High School Girls Sectional in Lockport, Hagemaster won the 200 freestyle (1:53.78) and 100 backstroke (56.65), placed second in the 50 freestyle (24.32), and third in the 100 freestyle (52.38). All four of those swims were also best times. Her 100 backstroke was a pool and school record as well.

This summer, she competed at West Fargo Futures and during time trials achieved long course best times in the 200 freestyle (2:12.50) and 100 backstroke (1:06.38).

Hagemaster begins her senior year this fall at Lincoln-Way East High School. She played volleyball her freshman year of high school.

Her best short course times are:

  • 50 freestyle: 24.32
  • 100 freestyle: 52.38
  • 200 freestyle: 1:53.78
  • 100 backstroke: 56.65
  • 200 backstroke: 2:07.35

Rutgers University is a public university located in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The school is a member of the Big Ten Conference. Rutgers finished 13th out of 13 teams last year but redshirted a significant amount of its roster amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Rutgers has 21 members of the team listed on its website for the 2021-2022 season, and Hagemaster will be part of the Scarlet Knights’ rebuilding process to a full strength roster.

Based on the 2019-2020 season, Hagemaster’s best times would have been 5th on the roster in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Her 200 freestyle best time gives her the potential to be on the school’s 800 freestyle relay as she would have been 5th on the roster. Rutgers 800 freestyle relay finished 11th at the 2020 Big Ten Championships. They did not enter the relay in the 2021 Big Ten Championships.

Hagemaster will arrive on campus next fall as a member of the class of 2026.
