…French swimmer Fred Bousquet made only a brief appearance last weekend in Charlotte, where he swam a 56.04 in the 100 fly prelims on Friday before scratching the rest of the meet. It turns out, he injured his ribs while putting on his suit for that swim. He’s receiving treatment and the injury has been characterized as “not serious” but “enough pain for some concern.” Bousquet leaves for the European Championships on Wednesday, where he’ll be swimming the 50 fly as a big medal favorite…
…Sources within the Tennessee program confirmed that Lars Jorgensen, who spent the spring semester as the men’s interim head coach before Matt Kredich took over the men’s and women’s programs, will be moving on. No word on officially where he’ll end up, but there are some good jobs still floating around. Alabama and Texas both have yet to settle on their assistants, and there’s some D1 head coaching positions still vacant – New Mexico, Nevada, Yale. He’s certainly done enough to earn at least a phone call for some of those positions – and the domino rally probably isn’t done yet either…
…Texas swimmer Dax Hill revealed via Twitter on Monday the design of his National Championship ring for winning the 200 free title this year. The cool feature about this ring, seen above, is the “100” banner below the NCAA logo, as Dax was Texas Swimming & Diving’s 100th NCAA event champion in school history. That puts them in company with only Michigan, Stanford, Ohio State, and USC as the only programs to have broken that barrier…
They should get some rings…other sports get SO much stuff all of the time…
Dax earned it and I am very happy for him. They need to get that typo fixed though 🙂 The “100” notation is very cool!
Do all indivdual / relay event winners do this? Looks like a racket for the ring company. I may invest in balfour some. It is an awesome looking ring I have to admit.
swimfan – it’s up to the schools. They can spend up to $415 per national championship (NCAA or not) on the ring, and up to $325 for a conference championship. At places like Texas, where they have money coming out of their ears, it can be a powerful recruiting tool to give out as many rings/other goodies as is permissible within the rules.
I would gladly welcome Lars to Tuscaloosa. The tide is rising.
The national champions are in Berkeley. But congrats to him for being a national champion. Hope the ring is accurate when it is made.
touche
i agree….tell me when he wins the team championship. being favored to win doesn’t deserve a ring!
Often being the favorite is the hardest position to be in. The USC swimmer pushed him the whole way. Dax earned it.
a ring for an individual event? really…unnecessary
I’m assuming this ring is actually for one of the relays he was on and not his individual win. It says “National Champions” instead of what would be “Champion”
