Sprinter Kaitlin Kitchens Commits to Indiana

Sprinter Kaitlin Kitchens from SwimAtlanta is the latest high school senior to verbally commit to the Indiana women’s team. That makes 6 verbal commitments to the Hoosier women that we’ve heard of so far (Reagan Cook, Ali Rockett, Marie Chamberlain, Delaney Barnard, Kennedy Goss, and Kitchens).

Kitchens has best times of 23.40 in the 50 yard free and 50.55 in the 100 yard free. She was also a 55.9 in the 100 yard fly.

With Kitchens in the class, the Hoosiers are bringing in three 23-low/sub-51 freestylers: her, Rockett (23.1/50.7), and Barnard (23.4/50.2). Those two will be joined by Kennedy Goss (a Canadian who hasn’t really done much yards swimming) and Chamberlain (her 100 back time is almost as fast as her 100 free time) who probably, with any focus, would meet those criteria as well.

Last year, Indiana only had three swimmers on their entire roster who flat-started under 51 seconds in the 100 free.

Ray Looze and his staff had a clear focus with this year’s recruiting class: get fast, and get deep. So far, he’s hitting his target.
