Sprinter Ryaan Alshami Announces Commitment To Binghamton (2024)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Ryaan Alshami has announced his commitment to further his education and swimming career at Binghamton University this upcoming fall. Alshami, a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, is from Grand Forks, North Dakota. He recently graduated from Grand Forks Central High School, and trains year-round with the Red River Valley YMCA Wahoos.

“I’m super excited to announce that I have verbally committed to the University of Binghamton to continue my academic and swimming career! I want to thank my parents, coaches, friends, Coach Cummiskey, and everyone who had a part in me getting to fulfill this lifelong dream. Binghamton had an awesome opportunity and great resources for me to balance both swimming and academics. So excited to swim for such a great school. Go Bearcats!”

Alshami is a sprint specialist, and qualified for Winter Juniors this past December with his 50m freestyle time (24.14). Alshami opened his short course season this fall at Winter Juniors, where he finished 92nd in the event with a time of 21.20.

Alshami had a busy few weeks in March with the North Dakota High School State Championships and the North Dakota 11 & Over Short Course State meet. At the high school state meet, he posted a personal best time of 20.84 to secure 2nd in the 50 free, as well as dropped over a second in the 100 fly for 3rd (52.07).

He lowered his 50 free even further at the LSC version of the state meet, clocking a 20.77 to win the individual event and a 20.74 on the lead-off leg of his team’s 200 freestyle relay. He also took the top spot in the 50 fly (23.63) and was the runner-up finisher in the 100 fly (52.91).
