St. Bonaventure Closes Out Dual Meet Season With Sweep of Niagara

LEWISTON, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure men’s swimming and diving team had its final tune-up of the year before the upcoming Atlantic 10 Championships when the squad traveled to Niagara Friday afternoon. The Bonnies finished the dual meet portion of the schedule on a very strong note.

St. Bonaventure won 11 out of 13 events en route to a 169-53 victory over Niagara as part of a dominating victory.

Kicking off the meet, the Bonnies team of Maciej DanilewskiHylton CollinsonGuido Balderrama and David Shakhnazarov won the 200-medley relay, posting a time of 1:38.25.

Elias PetriJake RuffoloMatthew BielobradekAlec ThomasTjaard KruschGeorge KallettaMichael Bruno, Danilewski and Shakhnazarov all won individual events for the Brown and White as part of a day that saw the Brown and White triumph again and again.

Petri earned first place in the 1000-freestyle, turning in a time of 10:03.89 to win the event. Ruffolo followed him by winning the 200-freestyle with a time of 1:47.22. Shakhnazarov was the next Bonnies swimmer to take first place, ringing in at 21.58 to win the 50-freestyle.

In the 200-IM, Danilewski was victorious after posting a time of 1:57.34 while Balderrama won the 100-butterfly, touching the wall in 51.30.

Thomas earned first place in the 100-freestyle with a time of 48.17 and Krusch was victorious in the 100-backstroke, turning in a time of 52.08. Kalletta won the final swimming event for the Bonnies, swimming a first place time of 4:52.85 in the 500-freestyle.

On the diving boards, Bielobradek used a score of 310.65 to win the 3-meter dive while Bruno posted a total score of 275.47 to win the 1-meter dive.

The Bonnies are off until Feb. 19 when they begin the 2020 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

LEWISTON, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure women’s swimming and diving team finished up the dual meet season Friday afternoon at Niagara and the Bonnies are heading into championship season on a high note after defeating the Purple Eagles, 141-98.

The Bonnies started the meet on the right foot by winning the 200-medley relay. The team of Zanre OberholzerRachel KimmelMia Cote and Ivana Janssen won the event with a time of 1:50.84.

The quartet of Hayley TasselmyerAllison LendaMarissa Carrig and Janssen also won the 200-freestyle relay, clocking in at 1:41.85.

Tasselmyer and Kimmel doubled up for the Brown and White in individual events Friday. Tasselmyer was the winner of the 200-freestyle (1:59.08) and the 500-freestyle (5:17.87). Kimmel earned wins in the 200-IM (2:10.17) and the 100-freestyle (54.94).

Also winning for the Bonnies were Elena RohrEmerson Graham and Oberholzer. Rohr took first in the 3-meter dive, posting a total score of 242.70. Graham won the 100-breaststroke in 1:09.47 and Oberholzer grabbed first in the 100-backstroke, clocking in at 59.19.

The Bonnies return to the pool Feb. 19 on the first day of the Atlantic 10 Championships at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The men’s swimming and diving team fell to St. Bonaventure, 169-53, in the final meet of the regular season on Friday. Prior to the meet, the Purple Eagles honored graduating seniors Edgar Melchor and Kevin Verdejo.

Meet Notes

  • Melchor won the 100 breast, finishing the event in 59.52. He placed second in the 100 free with a time of 48.55.
  • The relay team of Dalton StierTyler ProsserJoshua Bartel and Nicholas Stoll placed first in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:33.02.
  • Stier took third place in the 200 free with a time of 1:49.68.
  • Noah Brooks finished third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:02.42 and third in the 500 free with a time of 4:58.49.
  • Bartel (56.71) finished fourth in the 100 back and Tyler Prosser (58.43) finished fifth.

  • DeSimone won the 50 free with a time of 25.08. Suarez placed second in the same event with a time of 25.39 and Yvonne Schere placed third with a time of 25.53.
  • Suarez (55.20) placed second in the 100 free, Schere (55.42) placed third and Lauren Hume (57.85) placed fourth.
  • The relay team of Isabella DeSimone, Webber, Charlton and Schere took second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:52.97.
  • Zoe Gavin finished third in the 200 free with a time of 2:03.03.
  • Delaney Labue placed third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:16.04. She also placed third in the 500 free with a time of 5:39.93.
  • DeSimone took third in the 100 back, finishing with a time of 1:01.80.
  • Webber finished third in the 100 breast with a time of 1:12.18.
