Six home events highlight the 2016-17 St. Bonaventure University women’s swimming and diving schedule, head coach Brian Thomas has announced.

In Thomas’ first season at the helm, the Bonnies will host home meets against Youngstown State, Central Connecticut, Cleveland State, Colgate, Cornell and Niagara. Four of the Bonnies’ six total home events are in October, and St. Bonaventure will not make its first road trip until Oct. 29. The 2017 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships are scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 15 through Sunday, Feb. 18 at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

St. Bonaventure opens up the season hosting Youngstown State on Oct. 8, then Central Connecticut comes to the Reilly Center Pool for a two-day event on Friday, Oct. 14 and Saturday, Oct. 15. SBU will then play host to Cleveland State and Colgate, competing against Cleveland State on Friday, Oct. 21 and Colgate on Saturday, Oct. 22.

For their first event away from the RC Pool, the Bonnies will compete in the Atlantic 10 Quad Meet at SPIRE on Saturday, Oct. 29 and Sunday, Oct. 30.

“I absolutely love the A-10 match-ups with Duquesne, LaSalle and St. Louis at the end of October,” said Thomas. “Two of those programs beat us at last year’s A-10 meet, so this will be an excellent opportunity to see where we stand. In addition, we’ll be competing at the same facility that will host the Atlantic 10 Championship in February and it’s always good to have a dry-run in order to iron out the logististics.”

The Bonnies’ lone action of November will be their competition at Canisius on Sunday the 13th at Erie Community College. SBU will then compete in the Akron Zippy Invite on Friday, Dec. 2-Sunday, Dec. 4.

After a hiatus, the Bonnies will be back in the pool on Saturday, Jan. 14 as they head to Binghamton. The following week, they return to the Reilly Center Pool to host Cornell on Saturday, Jan. 21. After a trip to Buffalo on Friday, Jan. 27, the Bonnies return home to host Niagara the following day on Saturday, Jan. 28 before heading to Geneva, Ohio for the Atlantic 10 Championships on Feb. 15.

“I think the schedule will prepare us well for success at A-10s,” Thomas said. “I also believe that a good culture dictates almost everything in our sport. If we can continue to develop the right culture, I think the rest will fall into place.”
