St. Bonaventure Women Capture Victory in Season-Opener at Saint Francis, 106-99

LORETTO, Pa. – The St. Bonaventure University women’s swimming and diving team notched a 106-99 victory behind a quartet of swimmers earning event wins in the inaugural meet of the season Thursday evening at Saint Francis.

Sophomore Halle Myers picked up the first victory of the season for the Bonnies in the 50-freestyle with a time of 24.53 and Ellie Krauss finished second in this event with a time of 24.71.

In the next event, fellow sophomore Silvana Cabrera swan a time of 2:11.25 in the 200-IM.

Cabrera placed second in the 100-butterfly, touching the wall in a time of 59.13.

Freshman Kathryn Beyer won her first collegiate event with a time of 53.83 in the 100-freestyle, while teammates Krauss (53.92) and Amy O’Rourke (53.97) finished right behind her.

Beyer picked up another event victory in the 200-freestyle with a time of 1:57.40.

In the 100-backstroke, senior Allison Lenda touched the wall in a time of 58.81 to grab the victory.

Senior Maria Mangini picked up a second-place finish in the 1000-freestyle (11:30.03), while freshman Nele Vetter finished third with a time of 11:32.08.

The St. Bonaventure 200-freestyle relay team of Amy O’RourkeEllie Krauss, Allison Lenda, and Halle Myers capped off the night with a win (1:37.20), while the team of Paige KasemsuwannakaethRylie FoleyCaitlyn Clements, and Paris Christie placed second in this event.

Bona’s was victorious in the first meet under the direction of new head coach Mike Smiechowski.

The Bonnies return to the pool Friday, Oct. 7 when they will participate in the two-day Colgate Invitational.

Three Red Flash swimmers take home first place finishes as Saint Francis ended up falling short in their first meet of the 2022-23 season against St. Bonaventure.

Aurem Pifarre secured first place in the 1000 yard freestyle swim as she collected nine points for Saint Francis in that race. Pifarre also took first place in the 500 yard freestyle as she finished the day with two wins in her races. Sara Turner won her first race as a collegiate swimmer in the 100 yard butterfly by just under one second. Senior Krysta Weik secured victory in the 100 yard breastroke with the freshman Turner coming right behind her in a close second place.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Pifarre finished the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:49.71; Pifarre claimed first in the 500 yard free with a time of 5:13.20 also.

Weik won the 100 yard breastroke with a time of 1:07.45 as she looks to have a strong senior campaign.

Turner won her first collegiate race with a speedy time of 58.96 in the 100 yard butterfly.
