Women 500 Freestyle

At the 200 mark Elise Lankiewicz turned at 5th in the championship heat with many thinking the sophomore from Davidson would be unable to make her way to the podium.  Lankiewicz on the contrary had very different plans with a very well-paced back half captured gold at 4:50.36. Emma Smith of La Salle, who held the lead on the field until the 400 yard mark, fell to second at 4:50.92.  Molly Smyth from UMass captured bronze in 4:52.14.

Men 500 Freestyle

After missing the meet and conference record at last year’s championships Alessandro Bomprezzi took out his 500 well under record pace hitting the wall at 4:19.75 for breaking the aforementioned records.  With that time Bomprezzi could be one of the last ones in at NCAA championships.

Teammate Oliver Wyeth stuck at Bomprezzi’s hip for most of the race joining his teammate on the podium touching second (4:25.75) Ryan McCoy of Saint Louis (4:26.59) rounded out the podium.

Women 200 Individual Medley

Megan Polaha dipped just under the NCAA B cut to take the gold (2:01.31).  Polaha’s backstroke leg (30.61) was the key for the sophomore from Fordham to give her school their first women’s gold on the weekend. That beat out Saint Louis’s Morgan Peterson (2:01.88) and UMass’s Meriza Werenski (2:02.34)

Men 200 Individual Medley

After the distance men of UMass went 1st and 2nd in the 500 free Michael White and the St. Bonaventure men knew they would need to respond if they wished to stay in the hunt.  The sophomore form St. Bonaventure posted a NCAA B time touching the wall at 1:48.15.  Cameron Fadley (1:49.23) of La Salle finished in second with St. Bonaventure senior Ripley Danner holding on to the third spot. Wright(1:49.89) and Bobianski(1:52.51) of UMass finished 4th and 8th respectively in the championship final halting the comeback of the Bona Wolves.
