It’s one of the most amazing open water swimming races in the world – the RCP Tiburon Mile in the iconic San Francisco bay. It’s become a who’s who race in open water swimming with $10,000 in prize money going to each of the men and women’s winner.
The 2013 event features some of the greatest names in open water swimming (not to their pool fame). Also, beyond the elite division, the event features over 700 swimmers who come to compete in the age group categories and enjoy the one of a kind festive atmosphere. Race founder and organizer Bob Placak knows how to treat swimmers well, and he is a great swimmer in his own right. Bob was an NCAA All-American at UCLA, and he won the Gold Medal in the 100 butterfly at the 1979 Pan American Games.
The RCP Tiburon Mile also serves as fundraiser for some great causes including Hospice by the Bay. SwimSwam contributor Mike Lewis will be calling the race for the live broadcast – which will be featured on numerous swimming websites including here on SwimSwam. You can find more information, including how to enter, on the RCP Tiburon Mile website.
