Altogether, there are 8 female breaststrokers on the 2011-2012 USA Swimming Junior National Team. By next fall, three of them will be Stanford Cardinal. Today, they received a verbal commitment from breaststroker Kaylin Moss.
Moss has bests in yards of 1:03.6/2:12.5. Those times are good, but her long course meters times of 1:10.7/2:29.3 are what really impresses. At Junior Nationals, she finished 2nd only behind Arizona commit Emma Schoettmer in the 200 breaststroke.
Moss will be only 17 when she begins class at Stanford in the fall, similar to Maya DiRado was prior to her freshman season, which didn’t seem to hamper her. Moss will join a breaststroke group that will also include Sarah Haase and Katie Olsen. It’s amazing how well the best programs are able to take a program weakness and turn it into a strength – headed into the season, Stanford looked like it might be in trouble on the breaststrokes. Kerry Kraemer was awarded a redshirt to help bridge the gap, and now with the three very-young, ultra-talented breaststrokers on campus next fall, the Cardinal will have one of the top three (Texas A&M, Minnesota) women’s breaststroke groups in the country.
Moss swims for Wilton High School, but she recently left the powerhouse Wilton Wahoos program in favor of the New Canaan YMCA Caimans.
